Sculptures in Key West

 These kinds of sculptures always fascinate me.  I always do a double take as they are usually life size.  This first one was not, however.  It's quite a landmark!




But then, here and there we ran across quite a few life size ones.

The coat was a bit odd, even for November as many were wearing shorts and flip flops.

When we arrived, quite a crowd was around this one.  
Note the people on the bench...or should I say person?

I did my double take as I zeroed in and realized they were naked.
I didn't find pink flamingos but Key West wasn't lacking in pink bodies.


Again the heavy jackets showed these were part of a traveling display.  When we lived in Dayton there was a traveling show that stayed for about six months with figures everywhere downtown.

This one was by the water, so it was well placed.


They are fun to run across.  Have you seen these in your city?

Yes! I wish I could remember the sculptor's name...but a town just north of us (Auburn, IN) has featured his sculptures a couple of summers. I'm thinking it MIGHT be the same man. I think I recognize one or two that you showed here! Aren't they great?!?

Haha that's awesome! It's great when you visit somewhere and see the quirky things they have going on around the town.

Aussies are huge fans of 'big' things and there are lots of huge sculptures and statues scattered around the country. There's the big prawn, the big pineapple, the big banana, the big koala, the big merino, the big blue heeler...the list goes on! It certainly makes sightseeing fun on long car trips! :)

Future Non Scary Trunk or Treat Ideas

We had a Family Fun Night at our church on Wednesday Oct 31 and the public was invited to participate via flyers and signs.  The two hour fun night had several event areas.  In the sanctuary the teens had a fun 10 minute skit they put on every half hour of the evening.  The one side of the church's parking lot had a huge bouncy house and a dozen or so carnival games with prizes and the other side of the church on the parking lot we had a Trunk or Treat.   I participated on the Trunk or Treat event and unfortunately was so busy I didn't get over to the other events for photos. I was able to photograph some of the other decorated trunks while they were setting up to get future ideas.  It was my first time of participating in this kind of event although my grandkids have gone to them in years past.   I charged it up a bit with some extras at the last minute, like lights and some other decorations.   I repurposed my house decor for one evening...so I didn't

Disney World's Polynesian Resort Hotel

When we first arrived at Disney World we took the boat over to the Magic Kingdom.  Mr. Bill remarked, as we passed the Polynesian Resort, he never had any desire to stay there.  It looked boring to him from the outside.  I hadn't thought much about it, but I did like the lit torches when we passed by on the monorail.  I decided this trip, since we had a free day, we would stop in and tour the three hotels on the line.  We toured the Grand Floridian , the Polynesian Resort and the Contemporary Resort From a distance it doesn't look too exciting.  I could understand his lack of enthusiasm.   When we stepped off the monorail however, the entrance was incredibly gorgeous.  The waterfall was something we hadn't noticed as it was somewhat hidden from the view of the passengers riding.  It was framed by colorful blooms and multiply kinds of foliage.  Completely setting the stage for a visit in the South Seas.   Inside the decor was tropical and spacious with o

James' Summer Plans

Youngest kid, James has a full summer ahead after such a busy spring. This is nothing compared to the events coming up this fall for him! European Festival Tour : The Christian Metal band, The Devil Wears Prada has returned home to the states after a successful two weeks playing music festivals all over Europe. Download Festival, at Donington Park in Leicestershire, England was the final show. Here is a clip just prior to The Devil Wears Prada taking on Main Stage: Download Festival Song Release After arriving home, Ferret Music released one song, Born To Lose, from their highly anticipated album, which will remain unnamed until the release date. The song was released on Monday June 13, 2011 and was well received. It isn't the heaviest offering on the album, but Frontman, Mike Hranica, states it is a comprehensive preview of the album.
