Key West Just Us and the Chickens

I was astounded when I saw the first one.

There were many things I was looking forward to seeing in Key West, Florida but...

for heavens sake, we stopped for gas and there was this magnificent rooster crowing like crazy!

It was a gas station not a farm!

As we drove around we saw them everywhere
It was like they owned the city

Even in the dining area of the restaurant where we had lunch!

Just Strolling about, not one but several in different colors.  No one paid any attention.
( I would have loved to have gotten a picture of the huge
green iguana that ran across the patio just after I snapped this.  It was much bigger than our Tampa area lizards. )

Anyway, I had to be quick as we did much of our touring by car and tour train
(find the hidden hen)
so some are quite obscure.
So many shots were blurred.  One I missed completely was of the proverbial chicken crossing the road.  He was in the crosswalk, mind you.  In a busy intersection, crossing with the light!

The locals love them and often we saw private homes with Chicken features.

Like these gate posts

And this weather vane

They had many for sale in shops

There were much more interesting things to see, of course.  But I had to get my chicken post written because  it's the one thing that really surprised me about Key West. I was looking for flamingos to be stalking about and instead Key West was overrun with chickens!

Oh how this post sounds so familiar. We just went to Kauai in Oct. Wild chickens and roosters were everywhere. I snapped pics like I had never seen a chicken before. lol! It was the first post I did when we got home also. I too just loved seeing them. You got some fun pics. Thanks for visiting me. Happy Rednesday. I am now following and have to tell you that my sister just a year older than me is named Jeanne and my middle name is Marie.
Kind of fun!
Hugs,
Jann

That's something you don't see everyday in urban areas. How interesting! As a country girl at heart (stuck in the city :( ) I'd be amazed too if that sight happened to me.

I just HAVE to ask - who was cleaning up "behind" them?

Just like Jann when I was in Hawaii chickens were walking about everywhere. So I understand your surprise at chickens walking about in Key West. Such fun photos, thanks for sharing them with us.

So sunny and nice - just going out to clean snow in the driveway here...

Not sure of the name of this place, but it needs a new one. Chicken Paradise. We had them as pets when growing up, but we lived in the country.

I love chickens, but I'm also a little afraid of them! When I was boarding my horse at a farm, there was a crazy chicken that would chase me and peck at my legs. But they sure are a pretty bird, and I think that must have been fun to see them everywhere you looked!
Happy REDnesday,
Carol
How fun to see chickens just strolling around!

Happy Rednesday!
