A New Kind of Hostess Gift

I love putting together a whimsey with my hostess right there choosing her dishes.  It's a great way of showing your appreciation for the visit.  This one was intended for her beautiful back garden.

The special thing about a garden whimsy is, no one has another like it.

While she was at work, I scoured the thrift shops for fun dishes that complimented each other.  I always choose dishes safe for food even if I plan to make a garden whimsey.  Who knows?  It might turn into a tidbit tray.

First I placed all the dishes I purchased out on the kitchen table that I had covered with newspaper.  Each dish had been washed and all tags removed.

We then had a fun time putting different dishes together until we decided on the combination she liked best.  I applied a  special glue that was for outdoors and can weather heat and freezing temperatures.  There was an overnight wait to set completely and viola!  Her whimsey was done!

She plans to enjoy it for a bit on her patio while she decides where to place it.  A sprig of ivy is to be planted in the cup to trail over the sides.  In her area, it is recommended to come in for the winter as ceramic and glass may break if ice forms in it.

Nice composition, like a fountain, I like!
What a wonderful idea. I think I will make a few for Christmas gifts. I think it would be nice to put some bird seed in the plates as well.

Cute idea, I read a post recently using thrift store glass glued to make cake stands, and another using glass- bowl-plate-bud vase to make a garden flower which is mounted on rebar stuck into the neck of the bud vase.
Love this idea!! I will be out on the look out for plates and dishes to creat something similar!!
Thanks so much for the inspiration!!

Thanks also for stopping by!

Hugs,
Deb
