On our cruises we always forgo the meal on the ship and take in a local eatery on port days.  An open air restaurant and bar on the docks turned out to be a great place to lunch while exploring the shopping area.   We didn't go far this time in Cozumel.  Karan, Patty, Mom and I just enjoyed the atmosphere in the pretty village of shops right at the dock.  We chose Fat Tuesday for a silly reason... Swings were available to amuse those waiting to be seated.  Mom always seems to find a swing here in Cozumel.  On the last trip it was in a private garden. The wait staff were very helpful and had great suggestions.  The breezes off the water were wonderful on a hot September day! Karan and I were glad to sit and enjoy them. Geocaching* in Mexico While cruising my phone is off limits except when in Wifi areas so doing a little geocaching takes planning ahead of time.   I used to use my hand held GPS but my phone is so much easier that I now rely on it exclusively.  Internationally though it is quite a challenge.   The first thing I do before I leave is to look over the areas I plan to spend time in to see how many geocaches are located in the area.  This one happened to be located near a restaurant I had been to on my last trip to Cozumel!!   It was right there at the dock.  But where might the actual cache be located?  I had saved a few photos in my phone of  the cache page to assist me while looking.   This time I happened to spot the statue first and remembered it as the location.  An Impromptu Stop  We had rented a taxi while in Cozumel last year to take us around just so we could stop when  we spotted a place we would like to explore The color of the water in the Caribbean is just exquisite    Standing at that beautiful cement wall we could see across the inlet  We then walked along the wall to see what lay beyond.  We spotted our ship!   Also we found iguanas the size of possums! These days I am quietly navigating my way through my days and settling into a new routine. I want to change many things but haven't done much about it.  The house is still the same, I haven't changed anything to speak of except clean out the desk so I can use it, and re-file things so I can find them.  Bill and I had very different ideas about how to file. The days are blending into weeks now.  I'm surprised to find it is again Sunday already.  I have more than enough to keep me busy.  I have church events, events through my art guild, and family time with my mother and sisters. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My sister Karan and my mom and I went on an impromptu cruise in January, taking advantage of the low, low prices.  We were upgraded at the last minute to a suite and I must say I felt quite grand! While off the main street at Cozumel we were implored by a street vendor to come into his shop but we were ready to eat lunch. He promised to show us a great restaurant if we would come back and shop. We agreed! It looked fine! Even more than fine when we got inside! This courtyard was so unexpected. I was charmed by the homemade step into the dining area. My sisters listening to the waiter.... And then noticing me holding the camera! It was warm and rainy but the breeze was cool.  These fans were wonderful. The high ceiling helped as well. The lovely room was painted Ruby Tuesday and Monday Mellow Yellow It was a shock to realize after we ordered that the menu was partially in English... Spanish on the left, and English on the opposite side. That sounds odd that we wouldn't notice  until you realize the food names are the same in English and Spanish. The strangest things interest me!  I can do without souvenir shops or any retail stores but show me a old rusty gate and I'm in heaven!   What I saw on a side street in Cozumel on my trip last month... An old rusty gate... Across an archway The shop owner next door saw me taking pictures  and invited me in further into the courtyard where I found a swing made from a board and yellow rope. Does a child lives here behind one of the doors? Iron grates over the windows look pinkish. You can see the ocean at the very end and turn around and see the ocean on the other end of the street.  Turning around....the sea again.  We are actually on an island off the coast of Mexico I loved this tin house number sign..
