I don't decorate for Valentines Day these days but this week, I decided to put up a garland  in honor of Valentine's Day that suited me It was an impromptu gesture and I just used some fine twine and colorful paperclips  Do you feel the itch to straighten them?  I liked it better this way than perfectly aligned. It's nothing special but it amuses me, now that I'm on my own via widowhood to bring out my vintage...OLD MAID cards! This is what is fun about thrifting.  You never know what you'll find! Mom and I went to lunch and stopped in to a nearby thrift store.  We haven't done anything together since the cruise last month because I've been gone.  We had a very nice afternoon! I don't usually buy Pyrex even though I love it because I don't have room but this bowl was deep with steep sides and I just had to have it. Especially on half price day! $2.99  Our Black Lab, Gracie might have to be jealous of this new addition to the family.  She stands about 6" tall and is solid, maybe clay?  It's very heavy. The figurine is darker than the photo shows.  No markings on the bottom, but it's professionally felted. $2.99  I love these rocks because they have a purpose.  They are good coffee coasters while looking beautiful on the table.  $1.25 each Forget the iced drinks.  They sweat too much and there is zero absorption. My daughter and I have hit the thrifts like crazy, but honestly, the shops in Florida ROCK compared to the ones I have found here in North Carolina.  Nevertheless each store is a challenge and I have managed to unearth some great 75% off Christmas items!! I did find these cute little Starbucks ornaments at a dollar apiece!   They were fun because we just had our holiday lattes today! They were cute on all sides!  One was from 2005  Two were from 2006 This little guy melted me!  What a great little smile..worth more than the quarter I gave for him. And then I found his papa, knocked down to $1.25! So cute together!   I found them on different tables though. This one holds a tea light...so cute!  I can't wait to take him home and test it out!    Of course I found a Santa Mug! Fifty cents!  I feel comfortable buying a holiday mug I can tuck away ...

A couple of paintings that I thrifted are now hanging in my home. Who says art has to be expensive?  I purchased this one at an estate sale for practically nothing.  A couple of dollars if I remember right.  I asked about the history and I was told the couple had visited Greece or perhaps it was Crete and had purchased it from a street artist.   I think the name is G. Grigoros ?   This one I loved and could hardly buy it fast enough.  I don't remember asking any questions about it.  The Flash brightened it in the above photo.  The colors are really quite soft.  The primitive painting is my favorite style I loved how it was framed but, as in many I've seen in galleries, the frames could use some work. I have not seen anything online about the artist, nor do I expect to.   It just makes me feel happy.  It may make an appearance on my mantle in January.  ...

Hoping to inspire you to get out there and find something fun or valuable! Remember my visit to that cute store   Ozoma ?  This was my purchase :-)  All four pieces for $6.00!   Not old but perfect for  flower plates and totems next spring.   In the meantime...for me!  These little bulldogs I bought at different sales at different times many years ago. I've always kept them together.    This beauty has no purpose but to stand there and look good.  From all angles.... But I liked it when I saw it at a yard sale and have always kept it.   It made the cut when I only took 1/3 of my belongings to Florida.  These jugs made the cut too.   The vase is hand painted from Italy and it looks great everywhere This tiny jug is just clay pottery. I seem to be drawn in every time I pass a thrift store.  I glean what I can from that store and move on!  The Salvation Army store is just across the street from where we bank so I was dropped off while Mr. Me did the banking.  He then came in and dozed on a sofa until I was SURE all had been seen.  In Florida when you see a senior citizen dozing you are never quite sure if he is asleep or if he has moved on to a better world.     .   The Salvation Army is a place I like to support.  Everything in this post came from that one shop except the Asian dish.     I really liked the green bamboo on the dish on the right.  The Asian influence has lots of  possibilities.  The  pink tulips are embossed and the little lid handle is also a tulip. The maroon red plate is California Pottery and it goes beautifully with the  antique sauce dish. I have a weakness for glazed pottery pieces and...

I'm winding down on my thrifting orgy.  I've been down by my favorite store every day this week with an hour or more to kill so I've had lots of time to inspect every item.  My pocketbook is getting thin so I must start creating my totems and stay out of the shops for a bit.   But this is my haul for today. This is a favorite even though it doesn't photograph well.  This Asian bowl is very large and the colors are rich.  I love the artsy splashes and the shape, which you can see best in the bottom photo.  It's really gorgeous when you're holding it.   These are for me to use.  I love the smoothness of this style pottery and these cereal bowls are McCoy so will stand up to daily use.  Besides that,  my husband loves them.
