A Mellow Yellow Monday

Image
It's a beautiful morning here in Ohio! I made this totem whimsy from a few dishes I found while thrifting for my hostess with the mostess.  Totem's can be used at the table or in the garden.  If you use it outside here in Ohio, it must be brought in during the winter as ice and snow will crack ceramic and glass items. I hope she likes it! A Trade Off

There was nothing I loved more than my climbing roses when I lived in Ohio.  I planted them and they took off, blooming all summer into fall.  They bloomed year after year for many years without any special care.   They would burst into bloom in June then sporadically bloom until fall where another rush of color would cover the branches. They were such a beautiful shade of red.  A true rosy red, so deeply pink they looked red from afar.  It was especially nice because they were in the front of the house for all to enjoy.  You can't bring flowers, even cuttings from the Midwest to Florida so I did without roses for a time. Mother's Day came and I bought my mother a red rose tree.  It was the only  red rose tree available at the nursery.  Since I was also treating myself to a rose tree,  I had to chose another color.  Once home, I placed it here and there but I was never able to watch it closely or enjoy it.  It was alw...

Hooray! AARP R Us

Image
I see by my membership card (which is expired) that I have been a member of AARP  since 1997.  We just renewed the membership in July and they sent us stickers for the cards to show we are current members. This was news to me. I had no idea we were members.  I thought it was an ad and threw out the page with the renewal stickers.  Hubs came along a few days later and asked me for the stickers I threw out.  Now that he is retired he is interested in taking time to use discounts and coupons.  He was shocked we no longer had them and called and got them to send us out new ones.  I believe we are to look for them in a mere six weeks.   I've been traveling and eating out and living as a senior now for quite a few years and the only time I have received a discount anywhere because of my advanced age was getting a senior coffee at McDonald's for thirty nice cents.  True, you only  get the small coffee and it's just a few swallows, but h...

I Should be Packing

Image
I should have been packing but I got a call and an invitation to go Fossil Hunting! My friend, the Mad Scientist, remembered to bring bandanas this time!  Earlier in the week we could not see for the flood of sweat dripping in our eyes.  It did look as if we had been in a terrible accident and bandaged up...but who cared.  They worked!  The smaller colored ones were for mopping the sweat on the face and neck...at least that is what they were for.  I put mine on my head since I forgot my hat.  You'll notice at the end there is not a picture of me with a green cloth on my head.  That was deliberate.  We were not allowed to climb the hill.  So we were careful and did not climb the hill....very high.  We were excited to find fossils in almost every stone we picked up.  This place was a treasure trove.  Oops!  Are we too high up the hill? I don't know if there were any fossils in these stones, but the formation suggests an a...
