Visiting Ozona

Image
We were just out bumping around and we found this artsy little shop at the end of Tampa Road.  It was right smack in the middle of a little village called Ozona.   Florida is just full of these little surprises! This sign did what it advertised....it made me smile!  I took this shot for Monday Mellow Yellows And isn't this the cutest fence ever?  I'm sharing it on Blue Monday This little masterpiece was just behind the fence.  It wasn't my masterpiece but I loved it!   Sharing on Masterpiece Monday The shop inside was very nice.  I didn't feel right about taking pictures in front of the proprietors, so I just took a picture of the ladies room.  Everything in it was for sale. I felt like I wanted to show the owner my bag after I left to prove it was empty of any bathroom merchandise.  But I refrained.  This is my shadow shot for Shadow Shot Sunday 2 It just looked a little ghosty, li...

More and More Thrifting

Image
I seem to be drawn in every time I pass a thrift store.  I glean what I can from that store and move on!  The Salvation Army store is just across the street from where we bank so I was dropped off while Mr. Me did the banking.  He then came in and dozed on a sofa until I was SURE all had been seen.  In Florida when you see a senior citizen dozing you are never quite sure if he is asleep or if he has moved on to a better world.     .   The Salvation Army is a place I like to support.  Everything in this post came from that one shop except the Asian dish.     I really liked the green bamboo on the dish on the right.  The Asian influence has lots of  possibilities.  The  pink tulips are embossed and the little lid handle is also a tulip. The maroon red plate is California Pottery and it goes beautifully with the  antique sauce dish. I have a weakness for glazed pottery pieces and...

Lunch at Brits

Image
There is a new place in town and guess what!   Authentic British Fare! They certainly set the tone walking up to the entrance! My view from the booth gave me a feeling of actually being  in England with a photograph of the queen over the mantel and the flags of the United Kingdom flying. A complementary plate of freshly made crisps were served while we waited for our meal.   They tasted wonderful with my British beer called Bass "The Pale Ale"  I'm not familiar with beers and asked for something light.  This was their recommendation and was very refreshing and delicious with the meal. I ordered a beef and vegetable pastie with mash and peas and carrots.  The pastie was freshly made at the restaurant with their own crust.  It's slightly thicker than our American made pie crust but very tasty. The "mash"  on the side was mashed potatoes, thicker than ours, and so delicious. Real potatoes of course....

My Palm Tree Whimsy

Image
I love Italian dishes and this little tidbit tray has quite the Mediterranean flair.   The colors are even reminiscent of the Italian Flag. This tray calls for bruschetta piled on the bottom with stuffed dates and olives on top.   Perhaps cheese filled tomatoes and mini quiche's.  There are so many choices of fun savory appetizers!  The tiny vase topper is perfect for your fancy whimsical toothpicks or just colorful cellophane ones. The street market theme is so beautiful!  The flowers predominate but I loved the Palm in the back.  I chose a clear glass base so we would lose very little of the picture.   The plate is marked on the bottom  Market Scene Made in Italy The vintage Jadeite scalloped bowl from Fire King made a perfect Palm and was fun! The orange rimmed plate picked up the orange in the flowers in the street market and is not competing with the bottom plate but is not lost in the ove...

The Crazy Change of Seasons

Image
Why do seasons have to change in the middle of the month?  It's disconcerting to have September roll around and there are three more weeks of summer that everyone just ignores.  Woe to the child who starts back to school in the middle of August.  Wearing fall clothing, sharpening pencils, sitting in rooms decorated in fall leaves and pumpkins and it's smack in the middle of summer.  That child should be at the beach! Then Thanksgiving rolls around that signals an end to Autumn.  Of course it does.  We have had three full months of apples, pumpkin spice lattes and brilliant fall color.  Christmas is frighteningly close and Christmas is Winter.  So chuck out the turkey and pilgrims and embrace WINTER!  Snow scenes and Santas.  Sleighs swooshing through a forest of bare trees.  Hot chocolate, hot rum and chilled eggnog emerge.  Skiing and sledding abound until cupids, hothouse roses and sweetheart c...
